This is one of the historic khukuri (alternatively spelled khukri or kukri outside Nepal) reproduced by the Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. We at EGKH have made modifications in this khukuri to the scabbard and the chape compared to the original ones issued by the British Army. The scabbard and the chape have beautiful hand-etched designs. These designs add to the overall beauty of the khukuri.
The 13″ MK2 also known as the “Great War Kukri” is the Army khukuri which is possibly the most recognizable and famous fighting knife ever developed by the military. The khukuris were indigenous to the then mountain Kingdom of Nepal, home of the military who were later “absorbed” into the British sphere of influence with the Treaty of Sugauli in 1816. These ferocious fighters were infamous for their valor and for using the khukuri as an amazing “Tool of Death”. The khukuri is a Nepalese knife with an inwardly curved edge, used as both a tool and a weapon. It provides the user with leveraged striking power due to its forward-leaning leaf-shaped blade.
This khukuri is a reproduction of the khukuri that was used in WW & WW2 by the Brigade of the Gurkhas from the British Army. Now you can too feel the wrath of the soldiers on the historic battlefield that rearranged the present world. It is an everyday tool as much as it is a deadly weapon. This knife is very effective in heavy-duty outdoor work. In modern times this knife can be used to chop wood or bone and to clear bushes. You can carry this knife during activities like camping and hunting. Due to its historic design and use you can also take this as a souvenir or as a gift.
Handcrafted by the famous & very skilled Kaamis (blacksmiths) of “Bishwakarma” caste using high-quality materials in a very traditional manner with traditional tools this khukuri features an unpolished blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel which is 13-inch long and bullet point at the tip. The handle has an authentic historic design that is 5-inch long and is made from rosewood. The handle is very comfortable and durable with a “Panawal” (full flat tang) style where the blade runs through the handle and the metal of the blade can be seen throughout the length of the handle. The scabbard is made from pinewood wrapped in water buffalo leather. There is a very beautiful hand-carved design on the leather of the scabbard combined with an attractive metal tip (Chape) which protects the tip of the scabbard.
We also provide two small utility knives called “karda” and “chakmak” along with this khukuri. Chakmak is a blunt steel knife that is used for sharpening the blade or striking a spark with a flint. The other little sharp knife is karda which is used for skinning small animals such as rabbits or for cutting fruits. The scabbard also has two pockets on the back which hold the two small utility knives.
